About us

The Township North Bergen, was first settled by the Dutch in the early 1600’s. On October 26, 1661, the Village of North Bergen was incorporated as part of old Bergen Township.

The Boulevard proudly stands on the site of a North Bergen landmark formerly known as Schuetzen Park. Originally opened in 1872, the park extended over 32 acres and was home to decades of parties, weddings, concerts, and festivals. Our venue has a long and storied history in Northern New Jersey as a special place where generations of families came to gather and celebrate. It is our honor to continue that tradition.

Schuetzen Park is a privately owned park in North Bergen, New Jersey, has existed since 1872, located on the ridge of the Hudson Palisades at Kennedy Boulevard and Bergen Turnpike. Its southern and western perimeters are shared with the Fritz Reuter Altenheim, a retirement community named for the German author, Fritz Reuter, and Columbia Park, a large shopping center. The German-American Volksfest has taken place there annually since its construction.  In 1864, nearby Union Hill was set apart from North Bergen as a separate municipality that had been originally settled by a group of German-Americans as early as 1851. In 1872, the United Schützen Association opened a park on the site of the “Old Mansion” of the Wright family, featuring a new dancing pavilion, music stand.   Over the years much of the property was sold off, a large portion of which was acquired by the government to build Route 495 leading to the Lincoln Tunnel.

Head up to the top of North Bergen’s hills for sweeping views of the NYC skyline. Take a River Walk, but North Bergen’s views aren’t limited to clifftops, you can stroll along the Hudson River waterfront for NYC vistas as well. Today, this beautiful area with a dense multicultural population  makes it a perfect location close to all methods of travel close to the heart of NYC, and rich culture of Hoboken and Jersey City.

Our two venue rooms, The Boulevard Grand Ballroom and The Hudson host all types of events including Mayors events, Community and Live Events with Live bands and music and DJs, E-sports competitions, Comedy shows, Engagement Celebrations, Weddings, Sweet 16s and Quinceaneras, Milestone Celebrations and Corporate Events. Our state of the art facility is also used for video and photo shoot productions and other various productions.

Numerous industrial buildings have been converted into condominiums. A vast number of residents commute to New York City for work. The well known television show, “The Sopranos” filmed portions of the show in North Bergen. Residents enjoy the activities, attractions and professional sports teams located in New York City. The Gold Coast, Hudson Riverfront Walkway, the Hackensack RiverWalk and North Hudson offer numerous attractions and activities.

North Bergen History

The area was originally inhabited by the Lenape Indians. North Bergen was established in 1842. Henry Hudson made a claim for the region in 1609. The region’s farmers supplied produce for New York. During the American Revolutionary War the British were in charge of the area. During the second half of the 19th century and the early portion of the 20th century the region experienced significant industrial, commercial and population growth. A large number of European immigrants moved to the region.
